This project has solidified for me that education and sexual health are fields that I really would like to work in when I’m older, and that my passion for them is not unfounded in the slightest. I will continue to further my learning on public health education this final year and a half at UW through my major of Public-Health-Global-Health and take electives focusing on sexual health. I think that my work at the Rivkin Center was beneficial to the organization. Though it was curbed in the spring significantly by Covid-19, we spent most of the summer test driving new techniques for hosting our parties online. Through all of our ideas and mishaps we were able to find a useful and effective way to run virtual parties. In the future I am interested in continuing on with the Rivkin Center in some form, hopefully an instructor in the future so that I can be an even more instrumental part of education. What I have learned most from this experience is how life changing a 30 minute informational session can be. At the few parties I hosted that were in person, it was incredibly inspirational to see women gain the confidence to ask questions, and then receive answers to questions that they had clearly been wondering for likely a number of years. This internship seriously strengthened my public speaking skills. Before each party I gave a lengthy introduction to all of the attendees and kicked off the workshop. At first I was always nervous and would stumble over multiple words. But by this quarter I no longer panic before I give my introduction, and can do it much clearer and more articulate. I also learned a lot about what a feminist work environment felt like. This was my first experience where all of my coworkers and supervisors were women, and it completely changed my experience. Imposter syndrome, which I feel fairly often in class or other settings, was almost non existent here. My peers and supervisors were considerate of everyone’s extenuating circumstances, and always supportive of each other. This made a very positive work environment in a stressful time, because of this I always looked forward to my work with the Rivkin Center.
